Theraplay is a short-term, therapist-guided play therapy for children and their parents/carers which enhances attachment, self-esteem and trust in others through joyful engagement. It is based on the natural patterns of healthy interaction between parent and child and focuses on four essential qualities found in parent-child relationships, namely structure, nurture, engagement and challenge. Theraplay creates an active and empathic connection between child and parents and results in a changed view of the self as worthy and lovable, and of relationships as positive and rewarding.
Child Parent Relationship Training (CPRT) is a play-based parent consultation model designed for children (ages 3-10) who may be struggling emotionally or behaviorally. CPRT aims to help parents develop empathy and appreciation for their children, increase parenting ability and confidence, and strengthen parent-child relationships.
